TOURNEY AT PALMERSTON Press Association. PALMERSTON N., Tuesday. The championship croquet tournament was continued to-day. Results were as follows: Ladies’ Championship Singles.—First life, third round: Miss Steel (England), 26, defeated Mrs. Brabant (Auckland), 5. Fourth round: Mrs. Johnson (Christchurch), 26, defeated Mrs. Bennett (Hawera), 21. Second life, third round: Mrs. Watkins (Hastings), 26, defeated Mrs. Gardner (Wellington), 13; Miss Steel, 26, defeated Mrs. Fitcaithly (Hastings), 4. Mrs. Tiften (Hastings), 26, defeated Miss Steel, 10; and Mrs. Rhodes Williams, 26, defeated Mrs. Horn, 22. This was Miss Steel’s first defeat in New Zealand. It is anticipated that tomorrow will see the end of the tournament.
