HINEMOA DUE FRIDAY.—Due at Auckland on Friday evening from Niue Island, the Government steamer Hinemoa will, after discharge, dock for cleaning and painting. Spedding, Ltd., advises that the Hinemoa will now leave Auckland on February 23 for Norfolk Island. OMANA FROM SYDNEY.—The Northern Steamship Company has been advised that the Lamb steamer Omana is at present loading at Sydney for Auckland and should clear the New South Wales port toward the end of this week. MAMILIUS TO COMPLETE. —Due at Port Chalmers to-day from Bluff, the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advises that the steamer Mamilius completes loading at the Otago' port and finally sails on February 21 for London via Panama. PORT MELBOURNE'S MOVEMENTS. —The C. and D. Line advises that the steamer Port Melbourne leaves New Plymouth to-day for Wellington, thence Lyttelton, to complete her loading for Home. It is hoped to dispatch the Port Melbourne finally from Lyttelton on February 23 for London via Panama. NORTHUMBERLAND COMPLETING. —To complete her loading the Federal steamer Northumberland arrived at Napier this morning from Wellington. The vessel is now to sail finally from the Hawke’s Bay port to-morrow for London, Avonmouth,' Glasgow and Liverpool, via Panama. HERTFORD'S ITINERARY.—The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Federal steamer Hertford should leave Napier to-day for Timaru, thence Lyttelton and Wellington to complete her loading for Home. She is scheduled to sail finally from Wellington on March 3 for Southampton and London via Panama. Stannard, A. R. Underwood. MOTOR SHIPBUILDING.—The past year was a record so far as motor shipbuilding is concerned. A total of 137 large vessels of this class were completed, totalling 816,000 tons gross, compared with 735,000 tons gross in 1926. There are now on order over 300 large oil-engined vessels of 1,970,000 tons gross, which represents an increase of between 30 and 40 per cent, over the corresponding figure a year ago. Another remarkable fact in motor sliip development is that within the past year the world’s tonnage of craft of this class has increased by about 750,000, while steamers have diminished to the extent of about 200,000 tons.
SYDNEY STEAMERS.—At 3 p.m. on Friday the Maunganui leaves Auckland, and the Marama leaves Wellington for Sydney. At noon the same day the Ulimaroa sails from Sydney for Auckland. All the three vessels are due at their arrival ports next Tuesday morning. COAL FROM NEWCASTLE.—According to advice received by the local office of the Union Company, the collier Kaiwarra, which arrived at Newcastle yesterday morning from Auckland, leaves the coal port to-day for Auckland, and should arrive here next Tuesday. MAMARI FOR AUSTRALIA. —A cable message to the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company reports that the Mamari left London on Saturday with general cargo to be discharged at Australian ports. The vessel will subsequently come to New Zealand to take the middle of April loading for Home. CYCLONE AT SURPRISE ISLAND. Advice received by the Union Company states that a cyclone passed over Surprise Island last Wednesday, and the rough seas prevented the Kanna from loading guano. The message also stated the weather was moderating on Saturday, and the Kanna was expected to resume loading for New Zealand. H.M.S. DUNEDIN.—H.M.S. Dunedin is to sail at 3.30 p.m. to-morrow on a visit to Southern ports. Her first port of call will be New Plymouth. Afterwards she will visit Port Hardy, Westport, Greymouth, Milford Sounds, Paterson Inlet, Timaru, Akaroa, Lyttelton, Wellington and Napier. She is scheduled to return to Auckland on April 17. TAINUI FOR HOME.—The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advises that the liner Tainui now sails from Wellington at 5 o'clock this afternoon for Southampton and London, via Panama. TAMAROA LEAVES COLO'N.—Cabled news has been received by the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company that their liner. Tamaroa. left Colon on Saturday afternoon for Southampton and London, en route from Auckland. The vessel sailed from Auckland on January 21. PORT CAROLINE AT WANGANUI. — The C. and D. Line advises that the steamer Port Caroline arrived at Wanganui this morning from Wellington. The vessel completes her loading there and sails on Saturday for London, via Panamx TOFU A AT SUVA.—Cable advice received by the local office of the Union Company states that the Island passenger steamer Tofua arrived at Suva this morning from Apia, Samoa, and leaves there to-morrow afternoon for Auckland, where she is due next Monday about mid-day. CARGO FROM SOUTH AUSTRALIA. —The Union Company advises that the cargo steamer Karetu is to leave Adelaide on Saturday for Edithburg, Wallarroo and Melbourne to complete her loading for New Zealand. It is hoped to dispatch the Karetu finally from Melbourne on February 21 for Auckland direct, thence Portland. New Plymouth, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin.
