WITH INVESTORS ON THE 'CHANGE
THE WEEK REVIEWED MINING OUT OF FAVOUR By “NOON CALL.” WEDNESDAY, 9 a.m. With attention confined chiefly to banks and insurances, as far as actual sales are concerned, a week of healthy busines has been registered on 'Change. Interest in other more speculative securities also shows signs of greater activity. As far as Auckland has oeen concerned, New Zealands have registered the greatest activity in the banking section, and frequent sales have been put through on a market easing from 59s at the beginning of the week to see sales yesterday at 5Ss 9d In both Auckland and Wellington, and 5Ss 7d in Christchurch. New South Wales have been slightly erratic, the week opening with sales at £47 17s 6d, and falling to £47 12s 6d in Auckland on Monday, but coming back 2s 6d to £47 15s in Christchurch on the same day. Commercials register a firming tendency, and, from sales at 27s 4d early in the week, saw three parcels dealt with in Christchurch yesterday at 27s 7d. In the insurance section both New Zealands and South British have been active, the former easing threepence over the week, but the latter seeing frequent business on a market firm at 57s 9d. Nationals have also improved from sales during the previous week at 15s 2d to 15s 6d on Friday. The loan and agency section is quiet, with a steady demand for most of the better classes of securities. New Zealand and River Plate scrip registers a firming tendency. Coals continue firm, a steady demand finding buyers hard to locate. Pukemiros register a strong tone, with firm buyers at 63s 6d, and sellers not quoting. Shipping scrip attracts steady buyers on a firm market. Huddarts register an upward tendency, and from the last Auckland sale at 50s buyers nave advanced to 51s, sending sellers up to 525. Northern Steams, which were done at 14s lid, also register an improvement of twopence on the previous week’s business. Revival of Timbers One of the features of the week has been the revival of timbers, both Kauris and Parker Lambs being dealt with, buyers remaining in the field for both lots of scrip. The former were done at 21s 3d, and the latter at 17s 6d. At those figures, offering a return of £7 Is 2d and £6 17s 2d respectively, the scrip appears worthy of attention, as the worst of the depressoin in the industry should be over, and in any case bot.h companies hold fairly substantial reserves. Mosgiels have provided practically the only signs of life to woollens, and sales have been put through on New Zealand ’changes at £6 15s. Considering the range of securities, the miscellaneous section is quiet, and many shares are almost neglected. Thames Theatre scrip was dealt with for the first time for many months. Mining has fallen from.favour, and is treated with scant respect by all but the most speculatively inclined. Reports from the mines have little influence on the market, and most serin is depressed and idle. Even Waihis have suffered in the general depression, sales being registered as low as 9s lid yesterday. A steady demand is registered for Government stocks and bonds, on a firm market. Return on Investment Below is a summary of sales made on the Auckland ’Change for the week ended February 14, giving the approximate return on investment based on the latest dividend. In the case of Government and other redeemable securities, the return includes redemption. The first column gives the figures at which the latest sale was made on the Auckland ’Change over the week:—
