IT WAS AMAZON!

UNFOUNDED RUMOUR IDENTITY FULLY ESTABLISHED Mr. «T. Torrance, racecourse detective, reported as follows to the Trotting Association last week relative to the horse Amazon, which he had inspected at Davidson’s farm, Amberley: “I have to report that on December 17, 1927, Tomkinson, when interviewed, stated that the horse Amazon was quartered at Davidson’s farm, Morton Downs, Amberley. Acting on instructions, I went to Davidson’s farm on December 22, 1927, accompanied by Mr. Larcombe and a Press photographer, for tfre purpose of examining the horse and NEW STIPENDIARIES TT was reported in January that the appointment of two stipendiary stewards for the Trotting Association would be made after the four surviving applicants had interviewed the Appointment Committee on Saturday last. Apparently, however, the final selection will not be made till March, as the latest announcement is that the examination will eventuate in Wellington next month, photographing same. On arrival at Davidson’s farm the horse was produced for inspection by Mrs. Keene, who informed me that the name of the horse was Amazon. The photographs ot the horse taken at Davidson’s farm are, in my opinion, identical with the photograph of th e horse Amazon, who won at Ashburton on January 15, 1927. The examination, showing the markings and particulars taken at Davidson’s farm are,..in my opinion, identical with the markings and particulars taken by M.r. Gurry on March 3, 1926, when the horse was examined as a maiden.” The following resolution was passed: “That this board expresses its satisfaction at the result of the investigations. which finally disposes of the unfounded rumours as to the bona tides of tho horse Amazon, and clears all persons connected with the said horse.” The following, who were engaged at the Wanganui meeting, were scratched at 2.32 p.m. for all engagements at the fixture: Hynanna, Miss Hansom, and Agreeable.
