HOOVER "CHOOSES TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT”
CHALLENGE TO RIVAL gy Cable. —Press Association — Copyright. WASHINGTON, Sunday. The Secretary of Commerce, Mr. H. C. Hoover, has now openly declared his candidacy for the Republican Presidential nomination. He has pledged himself, if elected, to carry forward the principles of the Republican Party and the great objectives of Mr. Coolidge's policies. Mr. Hoover does not intend to carry out an active campaign owing to his obligations as a member of the Cabinet. He will leave his cause entirely in the hands of his friends. The candidacy of Mr. Hoover was announced from Ohio for the purpose at openly challenging the strength of Mr. F. B. Willis, another Republican candidate, in that State. This action is regarded in Washington as a daring and a crucial one, as Mr. Hoover’s success in Ohio would be calculated to influence the uninstructed delegation from the East, where politicians will carefully watch the Ohio popularity contest. Some observers predict that if Mr. Hoover gains the Ohio vote this will practically decide the outcome at the convention in Kansas City.—A. and N.Z
