PICNIC WEEK-END
ENJOYABLE OUTINGS The week-end was chosen by the bakers’ employees, the electrical workers, and theatrical employees as the time for their annual picnics, and each spent a thoroughly enjoyable time. There were over 300 people in the bakers’ contingent who journeyed to Edmonton Park, Henderson, by special train from Newmarket on Saturday. Swimming and games were the order of the day. The chief events were Bycroft’s handicap, and the Northern Roller Mills handicap. Results: Apprentices’ Handicap: R. Cochran, 1. Open Handicap: S. dale, 1. Members’ Wives' Handicap: Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Fryer, dead heat, 1. Committeemen’s race: F. Gale. 1. Master bakers’ handicap: W. Yndrews, 1; J. Shoebridge, 2. Bycroft’s handicap: A. Rounds, 1; M. Ansley, 2. • ’arters’ handicap: J. Sorenson, Jun., 1. Northern Roller Mills handicap: A. Sponheimer, 1; J. Sorenson, 2; J. Watson, 3. Root race: J. Sorenson, 1. Women’s race: Mrs. Southgate, 1. Women’s committee race: Mrs. Coxonj 1; Mrs. Watson, 2. Nail-driving competition: Mrs. Watson, 1; Mrs. .Macky. 2. Firms’ relay race (three men each team): John Buchanan, 1. Three-legged race: A. Rounds and partner. 1. Cigarette race: Mr. and Mrs. Moore, 1. Yesterday was chosen by the Auckland theatrical employees to go to Motutapu. The attendance was estimated at 1,200. The outing was exceedingly well arranged, and an excellent sports programme was run oft. The Port Auckland Band was in attendance. The Alexander O’Hare Cup presented by Mr. J. Farrell, was won by His Majesty’s Theatre. The Auckland Electrical Power Board’s employees had their day at Pine Island on Saturday.
