RESCUER DROWNED

WANGANUI CLAIMS ANOTHER VICTIM YOUNGER BROTHER SAVED (From, Our Own Correspondent) WANGANUI, To-day. Thomas W. Zinsli, a married man aged 26, gave his life in an attempt to save his younger brother Arnold in the Wanganui River yesterday, just below Dublin Street Bridge. Arnold was the first who encountered difficulties, dropping into a hole beyond his depth. His brother Thomas went to his assistance, though neither was capable of doing anything better than dog paddling. W. S. Haggle quickly rushed to the rescue, and not being a good swimmer was quite unable to help both. He eventually gave in and implored further help. Two boys, Kenneth Gregor and Ronald Dennis, responded promptly and swam to the scene, where both brothers had gone under twice. Gregor succeeded in reaching Arnold and Dennis attempted to reach the elder brother. Unfortunately the latter sank before help could reach him. Dennis dived several times, but the Tnuddy condition of the bed of the river prevented him from finding the body. In the meantime Gregor was having a difficult task in bringing Arnold Zinsli to the shore and was exhausted when Haggie waded in up to the chin and helped both lads to safety. The body of the drowned man was recovered nearly an hour later, life being quite extinct. He leaves a wife and an infant child.
