CHINAMAN INJURED

LORRY HIT BY TRAIN LEVEL CROSSING SMASH The stock-in-trade of one Chinese market gardener was distributed prematurely at Te Papapa railway crossing this morning, when the 8.12 train from Onehunga smashed into the to-mato-laden motor-lorry of Chan On, aged 23, of Nelson Street, Onehunga, and scattered the goods in every direction, injuring the driver. Chan On himself was severely knocked about, and a subsequent diagnosis at the Auckland Hospital revealed a compound fracture of the leg and injuries to the arm. The locomotive of the train was covered with severely-battered tomatoes when it pulled in at Auckland station, while much of the day’s market supply was left on the road and railway line.
