GOOD TURN REWARDED
CONGREGATION TREATED TO PICNIC ' UNUSUAL APPRECIATION An unusual demonstration of appreciation was experienced by members of St. James’s Presbyterian Church and Sunday Schools on Saturday, when seven bus loads of picnickers went to Ferndale as the guests of Mr. John D. Savory, of San Francisco. Many years ago, it appears, Mr. Savory’s grandfather was burned out in Auckland, and was materially assisted in getting on his feet again by the congregation of St. James's. The Savory family has been connected with St. James’s for a great number of years, and the past associations remain fresh in Mr. Savory’s recollections, though he has really belonged to San Francisco for nearly 40 years, but periodically visits Auckland. This time his visit co-incided with the annual picnic, and he seized on the opportunity to defray all the costs in connection with the picnic, at which he was given a great reception.
