TROUBLED SAMOA

NATIVE COMMITTEE REFUSES TO MEET FAIPULES INVITATION NOT ACCEPTED The attitude of a section of the natives in Western Samoa can be gleaned from a message which has been received in Auckland from Apia. Apparently the Faipules are no longer regarded as the representatives of the people by whom they were chosen. The message reads as follows: “The Native Committee was Invited by the Secretary of Native Affairs to meet the Faipules at Savalalo on February 7, but they refused on the grounds that the Faipules are not representatives of the people.”
