To Try Again During his absence from the tracks at Ellerslie, Kamehameha has been engaged in hack work around the roads. He will comprise one of the active brigrade at headquarters shortly, and will be given a preparation for future jumping events. In his last campaign Kamehameha was placed several times, and he has only to show a little improvement to be a good stake-earner during the winter. Was Recently at Ellerslie Nucleus might turn out to be one of the most useful hurdlers seen out for some time. She paid a great price when she won on the opening day at Hawera, but she was one of the favourites on the second day, so much had her form impressed backers. Again

she won, the rise of nearly a stone making little difference to her. She is a fair jumper, and a fair stayer, and aa hurdle races under reasonable weights are not hard to win, she is likely to more than pay her way. Certainly she is one that can be looked out for at Wanganui next week, as the course there will suit her quite as well as the Hawera track did. Only Fair in Open Company Town Bird got somewhat knocked about while at Hawera, as he put bis leg through a fence and damaged it. He was sent home to Te Aroha without waiting for any more racing on the West Coast circuit. Town Bird is not a good one to follow, now that he is ip open company, but he wins occasionally over short courses and pays a good price. He has plenty of speed, but is a very poor stayer. Benzora Not at his Best Benzora. a good sprinter when right, ran much below his best form at Hawera. His showing is not easy to account for, but when he comes right he will have to be respected. It is worth noting that he is in at Wanganui. On the. Improve An improving mare is Vast Acre, who seems to be staying better now than she did earlier in the season. She took on Reremoana on the first day of the Hawera fixture, a.nd was well beat&n, but not disgraced. Next day she won easily, and as she had 8.3 to carry performance was not at all a bad one. The best feature of | her running, however, is that she is | steadily Improving. Pink Note’* Cup As was generally expected, rink Note was a firm favourite for the Dunedin Cup, and accounted for that event in decisive fashion. His win was not above time, for Pink Note has raced consistently this season, and the excellent form he displayed at Wellington last month entitled him to a win very soon. In the Dunedin Cup last year Pink Note occupied a minor place behind Footfall and Vaward, so : it should be pleasing to his connections to see him in the chief role on this occasion. 11
