FAMOUS NOVEL FILMED To Go To The “ Strand ” A MAN who laid down his heart as a hearthstone for his son. The theme of the love of a father for his boy is paramount throughout in “Sorrell and Son,” the United Artists’ production, which the Fuller-Hayward management will feature at the Strand, the home for big pictures, when “Seventh Heaven” finishes its run: Not that that is likely for some considerable time. “Seventh Heaven” will give even “Ben Hur” a close finish in the race for popularity.
TN “Sorrell and Son” H. B. Warner appears as Stephen Sorrell, and Mickey Mcßan and Nils Asther enact the child Kit and the matured Kit Sorrell. The cast includes Anna Q. Nilsson as Dora Sorrell; Carmel Myers as Florence Palfrey; Norman Trevor as Thomas Roland; Alice Joyce as Fanny Garland; Mary Nolan as Molly Boland; and Louis Wolheim as Sergeant Buck. Much of "Sorrell and Son” was filmed in England and with the aid of the author. Warwick Deeping. All of the film “Sorrell and Son” is faithful to the spirit and letter of Warwick Deeping’s book, and the ending of the film is that of the book. Herbert Brenon, who made "Peter Pan” and “Beau Geste,” says that “Sorrell and Son” is his best motion
picture. A. father himself, Mr. Brenon believes the story of Sorrell and Son’ is that of any father and any son, and that the appeal of the film as entertainment is supplemented by its spiritual effect on men and women who view it. The story of “Sorrell and Son” is that of a British war veteran whose wife deserts him and his six-year-old son. The veteran, Captain Stephen Sorrell, M.C., thereafter struggles against ingratitude, poverty and physical exhaustion to rear and educate his beloved son.
