PAINTED EMBROIDERIES

T>AINTED “embroideries” were a feature of some of the charming frocks seen at a party the other day. Seen at a little distance a black satin frock appeared to be very delicately worked with fine silver thread and sewn with diamante. On closer observation the intricate tracery proved to have been painted on the satin, the little jewels being set at intervals. Equally effective were coloured decorations with the appearance of embroidery which were in fact the work of an artist with the brush. One beautiful evening coat was decorated all over in this way.
