MARKET IN GOOD TONE HEAVY BUSINESS Yesterday afternoon saw business on 'Change the heaviest for many weeks. A healthy tone is registered in the market for most of the better classes of securities. New Zealand Banks continue steady on a seller’s market firm at 595. National of Australasia have been done at £l7 17s 6d, while most other scrip in the banking section meets with a steady demand. In the loan and finance section buyers for Dalgetys have come in again, though offers of £l3 12s 6d fail to attract sellers. Goldsbrough, Mort have been dealt with at 58s 3d. Buyers of New Zealand and River Plate have moved up to 28s, but even at that figure sellers are not attracted. Auckland Gas scrip continues to meet with a steady demand with fre- ' quent sales taking place on a practically unchanged market. In the shipping section Northern steams have improved from the last recorded sale at 14s 9d to be done at 14s lid. Buyers of Huddarts who were in at 50s 6d yesterday withdrew -this morning, leaving sellers unsupported and slightly easier at 51s 9d. Timbers registered their first movement for some time, Kauris being done at 21s 3d. Woollens are quiet and mostly neglected. Attention is confined chiefly to Mosgiels at the moment, the scrip being dealt with at £6 15s. this morning. Insurances continue in good tone, •with Nationals slightly firmer. Miscellaneous scrip remains quiet. . Thames Theatres saw business yesterday afternoon at 18s, after a long period of idleness’. Refrigerating (con) ex div. were dealt with at Bs. Mining is weak and practically neglected. Waihis have weakened to be done at 10s.
