NEWMAN’S FINGER STALL

The silly fuss which was made about Newman, the Canterbury cricket pro., using a finger stall, has petered out. The Canterbury Cricket Umpires’ Association now states that it was not fully cognisant of the fact that the stall was used on the little finger, or that it was used as a protectipn f<V Newman’s broken finger. It now expresses the view that its use does not contravene the laws of the game, and Newman can go ahead and use it just the same as he has always done.
