Rotorua Meeting Opens To-morrow

SPLENDID FIELDS TO BE SEEN CUtf

TJOTORt A WILL BE A POPULAR RENDEZVOUS THIS IVErr END, ON THE OCCASION OF THE ANNUAL RACE Mrrt' ING OF THE ROTORUA RACING CLUB. WHICH OPEXSt* JfORROW AND CONCLUDES ON MONDAY. SPLENDID FlPrUl, ARE ENGAGED ON THE OPENING DAY. SO THAT THE ST'n CESS OF THE FINTURE IS GUARANTEED. .a REVIEW Vn THE PROGRAMME WILL BE FOUND BELOW.

For the eight events to-morrow the acceptances total S 5, a nice average of nearly eleven per race. This is very satisfactory, and points to the fact that there will also be good fields on Monday. The going will be hard, in common with the state of affairs prevailing at every race track in the country. The opening event to-morrow is the POHUTU HIGH-WEIGHT HANDICAP Of £125; 1 mile st. lb. st. lb. Lady Cintra 9 12 Wiltshire . . 9 2 Bold Front . 9 12 Day Abbey . 9 0 Fekatahi ..96 Lady SpalMaster Lu .95 peen ... 9 0 Dress Circle 9 2 Here again is our old friend^that gay deceiver Bold Front, and yet with the weak opposition he cannot be overlooked. Lady Cintra is -a useful sort, and Pekatahi put in a fine finish in a similar event the second day at Taka-

puna. and with a little further to go might have beaten Red Comet. Master Lu was a winner last Saturday, and Wiltshire failed to show form last Saturday, Lady Spalpeen did well under difficulties at Matamata, and is likely to prove the best of the lightweights. BOLD FRONT and PEKATAHI should be the favourites. An even field figures in the HOT SPRINGS HANDICAP Of £100; 6 furlongs La Roma / . 9 0 Glenetta ... 82 Palmares ..89 Red Day ... 81 Day Guide . 8 8 Young PreCaptain tender ... 8 1 Cobham . . 8 S Oscar .... 8 1 Bright Comet 8 5 Leitrim ... 8 1 Te Waka ..85 Cybelli ... 7 12 Calaris ... 8 3 Miss Myrtle . 7 12 La Roma ran Cynthia N close in the Trial at Tukapuna, and on the second day was badly drawn. She is a good filly, and should not be long getting out of the maiden class. Palmares was heavily supported at Takapuna in a similar event, and finished third, form that the grey should soon improve upon. Day Guide ran well at Matamata, and Captain Cobham is a possibility. Bright Comet, Te Waka and Carlaris can do better than was recorded last Saturday. Glenetta displayed good form at Dargaville, and of the remainder Young Pretender and Gybelli appeal most. It is hard to go beyond the two at the top, LA ROMA and PALMARES. There are some nice ones in the MOKOIA HANDICAP Of £125; 7 furlongs and about 80 yards Matinee ... 8 4 The Author . 7 9 New Moon . 7 II Queen Arch . 7 5 Maeroom . . 7 11 Archeen ..74 Te Koroke . 711 Clarus ... 7 0 Quincoma . . 710 Prince Lu . 7 0 Some of these claim later engagements, and may be they will be after glory as double winners. Matinee displayed his old pace to get second to The Immigrant at Takapuna, and that form reads well. New Moon has not done anything for a time, and Maeroom is also in the open sprint. Macroom’s prospects would be preferred in this race, however. Te Koroke will carry a penalty, and must go well. Quincopia is to have his first race for a time, and on this course should go well. The Author is not improving with age Queen Arch is back to toil once more, and with the sting out of the ground would have, to be considered. Archeen

does not appear to have recovered his speed, and Clarus is to have his first race since returning from Sydney. He may do better after a race. Prince Lu is a possibility, and of those near the bottom may be the most dargerous. MATINEE and MACROOM or TE KOROKE will carry the money. The forth event is the ROTORUA CUP HANDICAP Of £300; 1J miles Le Choucas . 9 0 Wedding Gala Day ..85 March ... 7 9 Alonsoa ... 7 13 Uralla 7 7 Lord Star . . 7 13 Mervette 7 0 Siaosi .... 7 12 The Lover . 7 0 Scat .... 7 10 Corinax ..70 It is a nice even field, with nothing very outstanding. The top-weight, Le Choucas, ran two genuine races at Trentham. being unlucky to get beaten the first time, and then winning easily the second day. On this form he will have to be taken into serious consideration to-morrow. Gala Day has been a —————— ■

failure lately, etnd yet he cannot be ruled out. Alonsoa will set a fast pace, and may see it- out too if handled judiciously. Lord Star is not fancied, but on a soft track would have a good show. Siaosi has shown fair form of late, and does not appear to be very relaible. Scat went a fair race the second day at Takapuna, but Wedding

March tailed the Jield there occasion. Uralla retains her ** she won the Takapuna 1 : Very a a a ,y an ?, " as 1 unlucky second day. Mervette will ' 1 the best backed horses in the ra™’ ° f may wind up the actual favourite' ’ lot will depend on the boy on ton Lover and Corinax are both from same stable and will not be brack.?* but the opposition may prove for them if started. LE CHOhr*. MERVETTE and SCAT evenly backed. The bus event off their minds a. punters will next concentrate on tk! WAIMANGU STAKES Of £ 100; 5 furlongs Cloudbank .90 Yellow Harvest Day 9 0 Bonnet . * , Eastbourne . 9 0 Hiata * - * Venus Abbey 811 Dainty * * ‘ • • • 811 Manners 6 „ The Dansant S 7 Partial Rang! Kokiri S 7 Eclipse c,, Red Day ..84 Winnington 1 \ % More often than not this class of r» proves a trap for backers. HowiT* they have a chance to do some trZ picking here, for the form is more less exposed. Winnington is a promi. ing youngster, and she led for the journey in the two-year-old rjt the first day at Takapuna Yen Abbey finished second at Matamata an*others that come under notice are Th Dansant, and Rangikokiri. Most however, should be forthcoming in port of WINNINGTON and VENUs ABBEY. CNUS

There are eleven left in the GEYSER HACK HANDICAP Of £125; 1 mile High Rose 9 7 Micrometer s * Ripon Abbey 9 3 Auriculus . * t , Abbey Day . 812 The Lover * 7 A Cynthia N. . 8 12 Dress Circle " v Corinax . . Sll Glenetta . . 7 - Whaka King 8 6

They are a useful lot of hacks, with perhaps the recent form of Cynthia X outstanding, for her two efforts a; Takapuna were noteworthy. Corinsx can do better than he did at the same course, and then there are High Rose Ripon Abbey, Abbey Day, Micrometer Auriculus and The Lover. In the even: of CYNTHIA N starting she should be a big favourite, and outside of her CORINAX and MICROMETER will be fancied.

The open sprint follows: TCtURIST HANDICAP Of £175; 6 furlongs Dave .... 9 0 Ballymoy IL 7 S Pelham ..85 Maeroom ~7 j Day Guard . 8 3 Abbey Day . 7 • Flying Prince Otto . 7 • Juliet ... 7 11 Lord Star . . 7 • On account of his recent successes, four wins and a second in his last five outings. Dave will be well supported despite

his impost. He is a big gelding and will carry weight. Pelham has not done much racing lately, but goes well when fresh. Day Guard is in good form but may find the opposition a bit better than last Saturday. Flying Juliet showed a return to form at Takapuna and as she is improving she ought to turn the .tables on Dave at a difference of seventeen pounds. Ballymoy II is making a reappearance, and Macroom reads nicely without a penalty Prince Otto went a good race in the open sprint the second day at Takapuna, and may go on with it. FLYING JULIET and DAVE will be the public fancie? The sprint is followed by the ARAWA PARK HANDICAP Of £150; 1 mile Le Choucas .94 Archeen ••• 1 \ Matinee ..83 Muscari . . T * Te Koroke . 7 10 Mervette . . ? * Wedding Clarus . . • J ! March ... 7 4 Dress Circle 7 * All of the above with the sole exception of Muscari are engaged earner in the day, and therefore the result of those preceding events will •>* good guide to follow. Unless toolgjjg penalised MATINEE and TE KOn will be able to fight it out. This concludes the first da> e P*® gramme. The fixture is set down to concluded on Monday next.
