Three young men, Ivor Maurice Vause, George Wakelin, and Douglas McDonald, were charged at the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr. P. H. Levien, S.M., that they did without colour of right, cn January 29, convert a car to their own use in such a manner as not to be ~uilty of theft, also with the theft of a tin of benzine. The car taken had been left for repairs at the local garage, where Vause worked, and was driven by him, accompanied by the other two, on extensive trips in the district. Vause and McDonald pleaded guilty-, and Wakelin withdrew his plea of not guilty for one of guilty. Vause was fined £2O, and McDonald and Wakelin £lO each. The application for suppression of their names was refused by the magistrate, who said that the offence was becoming too common, and publication of names was one of the best means of stopping it.
