The course is harder than most and a large number of scratchings are posted, including Vivo (Cup), The Swell (Okato Hack), Paitonu, Ora zone, Partaga, Sleepy Sol, The Lamb (Mimi High-weight.) Won by half a length; three lengths between second and third. Time, 2.54. Favourites Fill Places Favourites filled the places in the opening evefit. Royal Flight and Flowing Bowl were first out, but Powhiri and San Fera led past the stands from Elysianor. Flowing Bowl and Airtight. Along the back Powhiri and drew out from Airtight and Elysianor, and Powhiri, San Fera, Airtight and Elysianor had little between them at the last fence. Powhiri winning by half a length from Airtight, with San Fera three lengths back and Elysianor a good fourth. Flowing Bowl and Just John were next. Gold Dawn Wins Agreeable was left at the start of the Juvenile Handicap, Tea Miss, Gold Dawn, Te Atiawa, Lady Quex and Fermanagh being the order at the end of a furlong. In this order they came into - the straight, and a warm . finish saw Gold Dawn beat a hot favourite in Tea Miss by half a head. Lady Quex showed a lot of pace to get third tw<? lengths away, with Te Atiawa and Fermanagh well up. Way Lady Cavendish was first to show out from The Hawk, Kiosk* High Finance, Tip Tree and at the half-mile Lady Cavendish was clear from The Hawk, High Finance, Kiosk and Quillfire, these four being abreast with Tip Tree next. Crossing the top High . Finance Kiosk dropped in behind while Tip Tree put in a great rUn on the outside. Lady Cavendish led into the straight from Quillfire, Tip Tree, The Hawk_and Kiosk. In a short run home Lady Cavendish beat The Hawk by three-parts of a length, with the unlucky Tip Tree a neck away. Kiosk was right up fourth, . and then came Option. GREAT BINGEN’S EFFORT FINAL WORK-OUT READY FOR THE FIGHT (Special to THE SUNJ CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. Looking a lot better for his effort on Tuesday last Great Bingen stepped on to the Addington track this morning full of vigour and ready to go a terrific mile. Accompanied by a galloper as pacemaker, he left the eight furlongs’ post at top speed, and was down at the two furlongs’ peg in 31. The half-mile was reached in 1.2 2-5, six furlongs in 1.33 3-5, and completed the’ journey in 2.5. He was all out this morning.
