DENTAL MECHANIC’S FALL “MONEY TO GAMBLE WITH” . .(From Our Own Correspondent) WAIHI, To-day. At the Waihi Magistrate’s Cornt on Tuesday Selwyn Mononui Lovell, dental mechanic, of Waihi, was charged with stealing £ls, the property of Alphonso Cook. Accused denied stealing the money, but admitted being present when Cook gave the money to a Mrs. Cleave for safe keeping, and also to entered the room . where .the Phoney was placed. Police evidence, showed that when accused was charged with steeling the money he said that Cook, who was drunk, gave him the money to gamble with, but that later, he gave Mrs. Cleave £ls to hand over tp Coqk, saying that he had not stolen the money, but was giving the £ls rather than bo accused of the theft Accused was' Convicted and fined £lO and costs, to be paid in sev?n days, or in default- one. .month’s imprisonment.
