FIREMAN’S DEATH
NEW ENGINE AS HEARSE (From Our Own Correspondent) WHANGAREI, To-day. Fireman Victor Beeston, who was killed by the overturning of his car when he was returning from a picnic at Whananaki Beach on Sunday, was accorded a brigade funeral to-day. It was a pathetic circumstance that the new tire engine, to the arrival of which he had looked forward so eagerly was used for the first time as a funeral carriage for deceased, who had been a member of the brigade for over 25 years, and was at one time deputvsuperimendent. There was a full attendance of brigade members and representatives of the Fire Board. Public respect, also, was plainly shown.
