EXTENSION SOUGHT HEARING NEXT WEEK The applications of 60 stationers who are seeking an extension of their hours till 8 o’clock in the evening are to be heard by a magistrate at Auckland on Wednesday, February 15. These applications Q.re made possible by the. operation of the amended Shops and Offices Act, which gives small shopkeepers the right of applying for exemption from the closing provisions of the main Act. It is contended by the applicants that if they are allowed to remain open in the evening to the hour specified, their business will be placed on a competitive basis with, the city shops.
