MOTOR REGISTRATION
PLATES SELLING WELL BUSY OFFICIALS Though the new motor numberplates are being distribute/! nearly two months before they can be used they are selling well at the Post Office in Wellesley Street. The re-registration commenced on Monday morning, and 850 sets of plates were sold in two days. The total number will reach about 18,000. For the first two days last year only 450 got their new plates. The Act provides that the plates cannot be used until March 1, which acts against the officials in avoiding the last minute rush, and appears to be difficult to justify. The owners must have their papers in order to get the new plates, and the ability to use them immediately would not only be appreciated by those who are paying their fees early but would advertise that the plates were ready. Nevertheless the officials hope that there will be a steady demand for the new plates and that the overwhelming rush on the last few days will be avoided this year.
