JURY DISAGREES

SEAMAN ON SERIOUS CHARGE A retrial has been ordered of Thomas Francis Donovan, a seaman, 37 (Mr. Laixford), the jury having failed to agree on a charge of indecent assault on a boy which was preferred against him. Donovan stood his trial before Mr. Justice Blair yesterday on two charges, one of a grave offence against a 13-year-old boy and one of indecent assault. Evidence was given by the boy and by a labourer. The prisoner denied the counts. E. Twohill, J.P., formerly manager of the Sailors’ Home, gave the prisoner a good character. The jury found Donovan not guilty on the first charge and it disagreed on the second. The retrial will take place on Monday.
