ACCIDENTS IN CITY
NUMBER YESTERDAY NONE SERIOUS There were a number of accidents in the city yesterday, but none of a very serious nature. Three were to waterside workers. Through being struck on the head by the heavy hook of a crane while working on the steamer Middlesex, at Prince's Wharf yesterday afternoon. William Smith was taken to hospital suffering from head 'injuries. His condition is not serious, although the wound, about five inches in length, had to be stitched. The injured man lives at 6 Chester Road, Mount Eden. Two other workers on the Middlesex were injured. Mr. H. S. Henderson, of 46 Lincoln Street, Ponsonby, had one thumb fractured and his hand crushed when it was caught between two iron girders. Mr. J. W. Ingram had his left hand caught between, a winch and a truck, several stitches having to be inserted in the palm. He returned to his home in Runnell Street, Ponsonby. Burns to the knee, face, arms and chest, the outcome of a blasting accident in a quarry owned by Messrs. J. J. Craig, Ltd., in Marua Road, near Lake St. John, Remuera, resulted in Mark Ujdur, a Dalmatian, being admitted to the Auckland Hospital yesterday afternoon. His injuries are not serious. He lives at 230 Hobson Street. These four accidents were attended to by the St. John Ambulance. As a result of being struck by a taxi, a motor-cyclist, John Croger, was admitted to the Auckland Hospital with a fractured leg. He was struck in Anzac Avenue, near the University College, a little after midnight. The injured man, who is aged 25, lives in Martin Avenue, Remuera.
