“BRIGADIER GERARD”

AT PRINCESS, TIVOLI AND - EVERYBODY’S ON THURSDAY Adding an other notable impersation* to his galaxy of screen portraits. Rod La Rocque, will be seen in “Brigadier Gerard,’* which is to be shown at the Princess, Tivoli and Everybody’s Theatres on Thursday. The dashing star is seen as Etienne Gerard, a young French country boy ] who by his daring and bravery wins a commission in Napoleon’s army. He has a love affair with the Countess de Launay, finely portrayed by Phyllis Haver, and protects her from the artifices of Talleyrand, a powerful minister of Napoleon’s. Gerard fights duels with commendable dash and when nis. enemies have him condemned to death on a false charge of desertion, he not only escapes his prison cell by the aid of his devoted Countess, but he actually abducts the Emperor so that the latter may witness the execution of a brave man and a loyal officer. Of course, when Napoleon takes a hand in the game, Gerard’s enemies are balked and he is united to his lady love. The picture is vibrant with real drama ana thrills and there are numerous humorous scenes. The featured players are Phyllis Haver, Julia Faye, Sally Rand and Sam de Grasse, all of whom acquit themselves with satisfying artistry. f “Home Made,” starring Johnny Hines, will be the second attraction at the Princess and Tivoli Theatres. . “Home Made” is declared to be the funniest comedy Johnny Hines has ever made, giving the comedian an opportunity to apear as a country boy, a pullman porter, a ladies maid, a waiter in a hotel, and a high-powered jam salesman. In fact, the story deals with the successful attempt of Johnny to put his mother’s home-made jam on the retail market. If advance reports mean anything, “Home Made” should be a hilarious laugh-feast, as it scored heavily during its previews in Hollywood.

Louise Lorraine has been assigned the leading feminine role in the new Karl Dane-George K. Arthur costarring picture, temporarily named “Circus Rookies.” This will be the third Dane-Arthur picture in which Miss Lorraine has appeared. She played the part of a dancer in “Rookies,” and the role of Charlotte Greenwood’s sister in “Baby Mine,* which has just been completed.
