BOWLING-CROQUET-TENNIS DONOR OFFERS £SOO Trustees of the Hallyburton Johnstone Sports Club, Point Chevalier, held their first meeting yesterday afternoon, when Messrs. Hallyburton Johnstone, M. J. Coyle, S. C. Jordan, S. G. Rose (life trustees), S. Hyson, A. M. Laing and C. Solomon (elected trustees) were present. The trust has been set up to administer Mr. Johnstone s gift to Point Chevalier of his fine residence and j grounds of 41 acres. Officers were elected as follow: Chairman, Mr. M. J. Coyle; honorary secretary, Mr. S. G. Rose; honorary treasurer, Mr. A. M. Laing. Methods'of laying out the grounds were discussed and Mr. Johnstone offered to subsidise pound for pound any sum up to £SOO raised by the club. This generous offer was accepted with thanks, and Mr. Coyle remarked that no stone should be left unturned to claim the full subsidy. The formation of the proposed sports ground would fill a long felt want in Point Chevalier and would also go toward assisting the unemployed. The Government, it was reported, has acceded to the request of the trustees that gift duty of about £l3O be remitted: on condition that membership of the club be open to the public. Plans for the laying out of the grounds which allow for the formation of two full-size bowling greens, a croquet green, and 12 tennis courts were e considered. It was reported that work on one bowling green had already been commenced.
