DEATH OF EARLY COLONIST

MEMORIAL SERVICE At the memorial service in St. Andrew’s Church yesterday to the late Mr. William Culpan, who died on Saturday, tributes were paid to the deceased by the Rev. J. Lamb Harvey, who conducted the service. A large crowd attended and members of the Old Colonists’ Association and the Auckland Bowling Club were also present. As a mark of respect the club’s greens were closed until 3.30 p.m. Mr. Harvey referred to Mr. Culpan’s many fine qualities and to his great work for the church. At the conclusion of the service Dr. N. MfcDougall played the “Dead March.” The serv ice at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. J. Milne, of Thames, a friend of Mr. Culpan from his young days. Mr. Milne spoke of Mr. Culpan as he had known him in the early days.
