TRADE “SCRAP OF PAPER”
TREATY WITH AUSTRALIA CANADIAN’S EXPERIENCE By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. VANCOUVER, Sunday. “The Canadian who is visiting Australia finds a difficulty in convincing the Australians that Canada has not treated the trade treaty as a scrap of paper,” said Mr. J. H. MsDonald, a manufacturer, who has just returned from Australia, when speaking before the Board of Trade. Mr. McDonald said the loss in preference in the lumber trade was caused by the imposition of the on butter. Criticism of the Canadian policy was well founded. If Canada traded with Australia on the same basis per head as did New Zealand, Canada would sell goods worth £17,000,000.—A. and N.Z.
