INTREPID EXPLORERS

MISSING IN AFRICA DEATH IN NIGERIA FEARED By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON, Saturday. It is feared that the worst has happened to Mr. and Mrs. Glover, who left England in December, 1926, on a scientific exploration through the Central African desert. News has reached the “Daily Express” in a roundabout way. An African merchant living in Manchester has received a letter from an official in Maidugari, 50 miles south-west of Lake Chad,.in Northern Nigeria, who says: “A runner has just come in with bad news. Mr. and Mrs. Glover have been killed in French territory.” The Glovers’s friends in London were recently very anxious because of the sudden stoppage of their regular communications. The last letter from Faya, in French- West Africa, 500 miles north-east of Lake Chad, written by Mrs. Glover on September 28, was received by her sister in Croydon about Christmas. Mrs. Glover wrote: “We have travelled lover a waterless desert and were often for from 19 to 20 hours in the saddle. lam now 700 miles further than any white woman has ever been before.”—A. arid N.Z.
