THIEVING AT BATHS
HAUL AT PARNELL SIXTEEN PURSES TAKEN Always a difficult thing to detect, petty thieving at the public swimming baths in Auckland from the clothing of swimmers has given a great deal of trouble to the custodians. Last week Mr. W. Pay, custodian of the Parnell Baths, was informed that 16 purses containing amounts from £4 to coppers and a gold wristlet watch valued at £lO 10s had been taken from the clothing of women in their dressing shed. He immediately set out to do some detective work, and although it was a long and tedious task finally his efforts were rewarded. Up to the present he has succeeded in recovering all the purses and the watch, but the money is yet to be found. Mr. Pay caught the thieves, all girls, and locked them in his office while he got the police. He stated today that there is one more person to apprehend, and he hopes to be able to hand her over to the police before .Monday.
The thefts usually occur in the men’s dressing shed, but lately the women have been suffering.
