DESPERATE CRIMINAL
THRILLING FIGHT WITH GERMAN POLICE SERGEANT SHOT DEAD By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyrigh!. Reed. 9.5 a.m. • LONDON, Friday. The Berlin correspondent of “The Times” states that a police detachment of the Reichswehr (the German regular army) formed a cordon round a wood at Coburg, in which an armed criminal, named Hein, suspected of robberies and four murders was hiding. A police sergeant who jumped off his bicycle attempted to arrest him but was shot through the head. Hein then rode off on the bicycle. A second police officer overtook him and Hein took cover in a ditch and exchanged a fusilade of shots until his ammunition was exhausted. Hein, who was thought to have been wounded, escaped. He and an accomplice raided a post office at Ohligs at Christmas and shot two officials. His accomplice, Larm, was arrested. Hein afterwards shot two policemen who were trying to arrest him, one fatally.—“ Times.”
