ARBITRATION AMENDMENTS

UNIONISTS CONFER At a meeting of trade union executives convened by the Alliance Labour and held in the Trades Hall on Thursday, questions bearing on .the proposed amendments to'the Indus trial Conciliation and Arbitration Act were discussed. A representative gathering was presided over by Mr. J. furled president of the district council of the Alliance. .. It was considered after much discussion that the principal work in connection with the proposed amendments would be done in committee at Wen-1 ington, and the order of reference arranged by the Parliamentary Committee set up last session was so wide in scope that it was impossible to arrive at any finality on the subject at the present time. . , , . . It was eventually decided to appoint Messrs. T. Bloodworth, Gavin Stove, B Martin, E. J. B. Allen and J. Purtell to represent the Auckland unions at the conference to be held in Wellington on February 9 to discuss the proposals before Labour’s representatives confer with employers and Government representatives in March next. Discussing the result of the deliberations, Mr. Purtell said he felt sure that the men appointed to attend the combined conference on behalf of Labour would be able to state Labour’s case, and they would welcome the fullest investigation of any economic or social question that would be brought up there. UNIONISTS* MEETING The Alliance of Labour and General Labourers’ Federation have directed their district councils to call conferences of their members to discuss matters likely to come up at the combined conference in Wellington on February 9, and at the combined conference in March. Organised Labour proposes to enter this conference as a united force. An Auckland meeting has been arranged at the Trades Hall this evening, when delegates will be appointed to attend the forthcoming- conference in Wellington.
