Southern anglers have been having a great run with the quinnat lately. The quinnat salmon, which is the big fish of South Island rivers, often goes as high as 40lb in weight. This one was a mere baby, 15lb, but it was in great condition, and unlike many of its ponderous fellows, put up a stirring fight before it fell to the rod of a Christchurch fisherman.
