Is Advice of Hamilton's Mayor
“Plan for To-Morrow ”
Borough Council Chambers, Hamilton, ‘ February 3, 1928.
Dear SUN Readers, Fifty years is but a brief span in the life history of a town, and often there is a marked difference between the growth and progress of two towns founded at the same time.
So,me intended by their original dwellers to be great, have languished, while others for various reasons, sometimes- hard to discover, grow yearly in importance. , It is not difficult, however, to account for the very happy position held by Hamilton on. the occasion of its jubilee. As of one ancient city, one can truly say of the Waikato centre, it is “beautiful by situation." Ideally placed on the banks of the mighty Waikato River, Hamilton has become the commercial centre of a very fertile district. Not even the most farseeing settlers of 50 years ago could have visualised the Hamilton of to-day. Nevertheless, the public-spirited men of that time showed great foresight. ■ The streets and footpaths were laid down so wide that now they are the admiration of all townplanning enthusiasts. It is manifest that in municipal enterprise only one law operates for success and that is—constant progression. We see evidence on every hand which should stimulate us to move onward. My advice is: — Plan for to-morrow. Do our best to-day. For to-day will be yesterday—-to-morrow. J. R. FOW, Mayor.
