“TIP TOES”

COMING TO AUCKLAND

Wednesday, February 15, J. C. Williamson will present at His Majestys Theatre the new English musical comedy company in the latest London and New York musical comedy triumph “Tip Toes,’' which vied with “Rose Marie” and “Madame Pompadour” as the most popular musical play staged in Australia during recent years. The success it won in Sydney is well-known to theatre-goers and in Melbourne it proved quite as successful as “Rose Marie.” ‘'Graceful legs, whirling in intricate Charleston and Blackbottom steps, performed by gorgeously-frooked girls—and pirouetting 50 times more gracefully still, the most beautiful pair of slim legs ari Australian audience has seen, tuneful music, delightful musical numbers, clever comedy and picturesque stage settings,” is how a Sydney critic started his criticism of the initial Australian production of “Tip Toes.” “The slim legs,” wrote .the same critic, “belong to Elizabeth Morgan. unquestionably one of the most talented comediennes who has visited these shores.” No money, it is stated, was spared in making “Tip Toes” the most spectacular play ever staged by the J. C. Williamson, Ltd., management. The cast of “Tip Toes” was selected with great care, and it includes some of London and New York’s finest musical comedy artists. “Tip Toes,” therefore, does not stand or fall by one personality: its story is an excellent one, the whole of the largo company is superb and the music is full of Gershwin’s amazing vitality. Some of the music, in fact, has quite a Stravin.skv flavour, especially in the portions written for full orchestra with two pianos. The approaching season is to be limited and during its duration of nine nights. “Queen High,” another successful musical play will also be staged. The box plans will be opened at Lewis R. Eady’s on Monday. February 13. An outstanding feature of both “Tip Toes” and “Queen High” is the sensational dancing of Hugo and Ramona, from the Folies Bergeres, Paris.
