DECREASE IN UNEMPLOYMENT
THIS WEEK’S STATISTICS Since the holidays'thc Labour Be-j partment’s weekly figures have shown | increases in the number of unemployed each week, but the figures supplied this morning show a substantial decrease and also a greater number placed in employment. A toal of 725 men are registered and of that number 649 are classed as fit for heavy work and 76 as suitable for light work. Of last week’s total of SO9, 734 were classed as fit for heavy work and 75 for light work. During the week 140 men were placed in employment, compared with 24 for the week ending January 28.
