TOBACCONISTS’ HOURS
SCHEDULE FIXED ELIMINATING COMPETITION As it was anticipated, early action has been taken by tobacconists to secure some of the possible advantages of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, in respect to competitive hours with small shops selling tobacco and tobacconist goods. A largely attended meeting of tobacconists was held on Thursday,* and it was then decided that the hours r»f closing for tobacconists* shops should be as follows:—On Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, all shops will close at 7 p.m.; shops which observe Saturday half-holiday will close on Wednesdays at 9 p.m., on Fridays at 10 p.m., and on Saturdays at 1 p.m.; shops which observe the half-holiday on Wednesday -will close on that day at 1 p.m,* on Fridays at 9 p.m., and on Saturdays at 10 p.m. Before these hours for closing can be brought into effect a requisition in accordance with the Shops and Offices Act will require to be signed by not less -than three-fifths of the tobacconists in the combined Auckland districts comprising the city and suburban borough and town districts.
