Thames Rainfall. —The rainfall for Thames for the month of January .44in.; for the corresponding month last year the fall was 1.30 in., in 192‘> 4.15 in., and in 1925 3.oin.
Fined for Fighting.—William Rud«. was fined £1 and costs in the Polio* Court to-day for fighting with GeorgH. Hogg. A similar charge against Hogg was dismissed.
Alleged Valueless Cheques. — A man named Albert Joseph Vance Ryan was arrested at Coromandel to-day and charged with issuing valueless cheque?. The justices remanded accused to Thames.
Remand on Forgery Charge.—William Cumberland Green. who is charged with causing J. H. Robertson to act on a forged cheque, was remanded until February 10
Fined for Obscene Language. —A fin* of £3, in default 14 days, was imposed on Charles Danielson, aged 26. In the Police Cpurt to-day, for using obscene language in Hobson Street yesterday.
Idle and Disorderly. —Colin Jamieson McDuff. 56, who was chargeH at the Police Court to-daj r with being an idle and disorderly person, was remanded for a week.
Unlicensed Wireless. —Arthur L. Richardson and Norman E. Talbot were each fined 20s and costs in the Police Court to-day for having unlicensed wireless sets.
Good Advice. —“ You should go to One Tree Hill to do that,” said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court to-day, when ordering Cecil W. Stuart to pay the costs on & charge of preaching in the street.
Theft Charge Dismissed. —A charge of stealing a brief bag and contents valued at 16s was preferred against Samuel George Wallace (39) in the Police Court to-day. The charge was dismissed, the evidence failing to establish his guilt.
Stole Sixpenn’orth of Fruit. —Daniel Hebley, aged 28, in the Police Court to-day, admitted stealing fruit valued at sixpence from an Indian hawker. He was sent to gaol fdk* seven days.
Breach of Probation Licence.—-For failing to comply with the terms of his probationary licence, Percy Mathicson, aged 23, was sentenced at the Police Court to-day xo three months’ imprisonment.
Deliberate Assault. —Described as a larrikin who deliberately assaulted a boy, Stanley D. Qoggan, a youth, was fined £ 5 at the Police Court today. On a charge of obscene language he was convicted and discharged.
Sleeping Out.—Frederick William Cousins (45), who was found sleeping in a vacant house in Wellington Street, appeared in the Police Court this morning. He was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon.
Obscene Language. —John Bennett (38) appeared at the Police Court today charged with using obscene language and assaulting Frank Slater. He was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment for assault, and convicted and ordered to pay costs on the first charge.
Theft of Fishing Lines.—A charge of stealing two fishing lines valued at 4s, the property of Walter Lambourne, was preferred against Owen Byrne (32) at the Police Court to-day. He is at present serving a sentence for theft, and was convicted and discharged.
Failure to Maintain. —An old offender, Daniel Egan, 53 years of age, is £99 15s in arrears on a maintenance order, and appeared at the Police Court to-day. He was ordered to pay £1 a week off the arrears, and to take out a prohibition order.
Lory Strikes Bridge. —Yesterday a heavy cream lorry, owned by Messrs. Stonex, Ltd., crashed into the side of the bridge over the Tamaki River, between Otahuhu and* Papatoetoe. The lorry remained balanced half ever the edge. The driver, who was uninjured, beat a hasty retreat. By- taw Decisions. —The Legal and By-laws Committee of the City Council yesterday decided that proceedings be taken against all owners of noisy motor-cycles; that taxi stand telephones must be in small boxes on poles; and that Commerce Street remain the suburban bus terminus. Tearoom Gutted.—The De Luxe Tearoom, in the main street of Pukekohe, was gutted by fire at about three o’clock on Thursday morning. The fire brigade was called and soon got the fire under saving another shop in the same building. The building is owned by Mrs. M. A. Bayly. of Pukekohe, -and is insured for £750. The total damage is estimated at about £■ 300. Butcher Injured. —A butcher, Mr. Roy Norgrove, aged 29, was badly cut in the groin through a knife slipping as he was working in the shop of the Auckland Meat Company at the corner of Manukau and Fairfax Roads yesterday. He lost a large quantity of blood before he could be taken to hospital bv the St. John Ambulance. He lives at 51 Calgary. Street. Dominiwi Road. —> . - ■
