WATER FILTRATION
PLANT PURCHASED TENDER OF £33,379 ACCEPTED PREPARING FOR HUIA SUPPLY At a special meeting of the City Council yesterday afternoon the tender of Candy Filters, Ltd., to erect the filtration plant for the Huia water supply, was accepted. The tendered price was the estimate having been £36,400. The company installed the two filtration systems at present operating, and was the lowest in price of the five quotations considered yesterday. The new plant will be installed within a few chains of the Titirangi plant dealing with the Nihotupu supply. Provision will be made in the new plant for bringing in the Lower Nihotupu and Lower Huia dam supplies if they are made use of in the future. Huia gravi T tation will provide 4,500,000 gallons daily, but the plant will be capable of dealing with 8,000,000. All the tenderers, the city engineer told the council, were British. The Candy Company had built two plants which reasonably complied with tests and guarantees. The council accepted the tender conditional on the city engineer being satisfied that the plant was suitable, and it is hoped to have it available by next November when running water will be diverted from Huia.
