THIEVES BUSY
INTRUDERS IN SUBURBS REMUERA HOUSE BURGLED Thieves have been busy in the suburbs of Auckland during the past few weeks, but in the majority of cases only small amounts have been stolen. The heaviest loser was Mr. A. J. Hutchinson, Dromorne Road, Remuera, whose house was broken into on Monday and articles and money to the value o£ about £6O stolen. Mr. and Mrs. Hutchinson had been away for the day and returned home in the evening. They found that the leadlight of the door leading on to a sleeping porch had been smashed, and that the thieves had made their entrance by turning the lock from the inside. The intruders had made a thorough search of the house, and had evidently gone in search of money or valuables. The stolen articles, which were in a drawer of a wardrobe in a bedroom., consisted of two valuable rings, two gold watches, two gold chains, two gold eversharp pencils and a gold fountain pen. In addition to these the sum of £l2 was also taken. Petty thieving on the beaches has been prevalent during the holiday season. Quantities of clothing have been taken from unfortunate bathers, and in many cases small sums of money have disappeared. Houses in the suburbs have not been immune from intruders- As many of the residents nave been absent during the day it has been comparatively easy for the thieves to work undisturbed. Those who are absent on holiday may make rather distressing discoveries when they return unless they had taken the precaution to lock everything securely before leaving.
