“SEVENTH HEAVEN”

AT STRAND TO-NIGHT From the depths of the sewers to the height of the seventh heaven of happiness, is the journey accomplished by Diane and Chico, the leading characters round which the plot of “Seventh Heaven” revolves. Chico, the sewercleaner, is the “very remarkable fellow,” whose ambitions soar above his occupation, and cause him to select a home seven flights above the streets of Paris and as near to the stars as he can get. Into his life comes the tragic, dispirited Diane, waif of the streets, moral coward, who still retains some thought that God will one day take her from the life she loathes. Chico rescues the girl from the wrath of her sister, takes her to his garret, and then finds that love has commenced to blossom. Without her life would be barren, he decides, and when he realises this Chico buys her a beautiful

wedding gown, and nearly forgets to tell her that they are to be married. Clad in her bridal frock and all ready to have the ceremony performed, Diane is forced from her lover’s arms by the drums of war, the relentless fate which pursues these happiest of all mortals. But, in spite of separation, of terror and of hardship, faith and courage triumph and bring the lovers together again in the most poignant and thrilling climax ever seen in a film production. Remarkably vivid are the portrayals of Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell, as Chico and Diane, while Gladys Brockwell, Ben Bard, Emile Chantard and Albert Gran are superb.
