TOO MANY TEACHERS
PROBLEM IN TARANAKI MINISTER APPROACHED “REDUCE SIZE OF CLASSES” Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. The problem of finding employment for all teachers qualified at the Training College and unable to secure positions was discussed by the Taranaki Education Board with the Minister of Education, the Hon. R. A. Wrightj^tp- fc day. In Taranaki there were 35 suSti teachers out of employment, and it was suggested to the Minister that the difficulty could be overcome by reducing the sizes of some classes now obviously too large. Mr. Wright agreed to give this suggestion serious consideration on his return to Wellington. It had been suggested that the trainees should enter college at varying periods of the year, so that all would not come out at once, since it had been found that generally the unemployed teachers were absorbed toward the end of the year, but he did not think that this scheme was practicable. The Minister this afternoon officially opened the new hostel at the Girls’ High School, a fine structure costing £23,900.
