RIVAL ROUTES MINISTER INTERVIEWED Press Association. GISBORNE, To-day. A conference was held this morning between the Minister of Public Works and the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce to consider the question of the railway route between Gisborne and Wairoa. The Minister had with him Mr. McKenzie, assistant-engineer-in- . hief of the Public Works Department; .Mr. Rodic, commercial manager of the New Zealand Railways; Mr. Fay, head of the operation division of the railways. Mr. W. D. Lysnar, M.P., was also present and explained that the Gisborne people wanted the figures on which the Government had given its decision In favour of the coastal as against the inland route explained and investigated. Mr. Armstrong, Mayor of Gisborne, >aid there was a general feeling in the district that the Government was making a mistake in adopting the coastal joute. Discussion is proceeding.
