HOUSEHOLD HINTS

A Patching Hint.—Many people find it difficult to fix a patch quite straight and even. Try this plan, and you will find it quite easy. Take a piece of board, a sleeveboard, or any piece of light wood put it inside the garment under the place to be patched, and you can’t go wrong. If you have not a piece of wood handy, a stiff book cover will do just as well. Here is another good idea when mending the children’s stockings: Take a piece of coarse black net 01 muslin over the hole, and darn : n and out of the net. Brooms. These often become oadly crushed through being placed the wrong way up (on their heads). The best way to restore them is in the following manner:— Put a half-filled kettle on the fire, and when the steam is pouring from the spout apply the crushed bristles to it. In a few minutes the broom will look like new. While steaming the hand should be passed quickly over the surface of the broom every now and then, to hasten its re covery.
