CHILDREN’S PRANK

MOTOR-CYCLE TRAP THREAD STRETCHED OVER ROAD SCHOOL TEACHER CAUGHT Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday. The Child Welfare Court was recently occupied with a. case which occasioned a great deal of interest. It resulted from the culminating act of a series of unpleasant episodes which have been annoying the neighbourhood lately. . Two school children stretched a tlun but strong thread across the road at neck-high level of any person riding a motor-cycle. The local school teacher was in the habit of using this form of conveyance'for trips to and from town. That afternoon, after closing her school, she rode unsuspectingly into the trap so cunningly prepared. The teacher was an experienced motor-cyclist, and, although cut about the throat by the cord, she managed to retain her control over the machine. A girl friend seated on the pillion was not so fortunate and was thrown heavily to the metalled road. The ringleader of the two boys concerned was committed to the supervision of the welfare officer for a. period of two years, while the other boy received similar restraint covering a 12 months* period. The teacher and her companion were ! awarded damages and expenses, the former for repairs to her machine, and the latter for a new pair of silk stockings.
