HARBOUR AFFAIRS
MEETING OF BOARD The Auckland Harbour Board met yesterday, Mr. H. R. Mackenzie presiding. The District Engineer, New Zealand Railways, wrote stating that the completion of the lay-out of the new railway station yard would make it necessary to eliminate the existing inwards goods yard adjacent to Beach Road and concentrate all traffic on the sidings adjacent to Quay Street. He asked (1) if the board would lease Block XXVI., Eastern Reclamation, to the department for approximately 18 months, and if so, upon what terms; (2) if the board would be agreeable to forming the roadway adjacent to the block in question in the event of the department entering into a lease. The question was referred to the board in committee, with power to act. The Stevedores’ Association requested that the construction of the wesetrn viaduct near Freeman’s Ikiy should be treated as an urgent work, in order to link up with the waterfront railway system. The suggestion was deferred for consideration in committee. ‘ An application from the Auckland Metropolitan Agricultural and Pastoral Association for the use of wharf sheds for the winter show in July was also referred to the committee.
