Busy Hamilton Brigade.—Twentysix calls were received by the Hamilton Fire Brigade in January, 20 being to gorse, grass and peat fires. Killed in Bush. —While felling a tree at Mokai a man named Watts, whose people reside a. few miles from Ongaroto, was killed. He saw the tree was falling the wrong way and in running to escape his foot caught and threw him. His skull was badly crushed. Tipped Into Lake. While Mr. G. S. Whiteside, o£ Whakatane, was endeavouring to pass a car on the Whaka-tane-Rotorua Road he was tipped into Lake Rotoma owing to the road giving way. With him in the car were Mrs. Whiteside, their son and Mrs. Shaw The car turned upside down but no one was hurt.
