MANUKAU CRUISING CLUB
RACES TO CORNWALLIS Cruising races to Cornwallis for yachts and launches were conducted by tihe Manukau Cruising Club on Saturday. Nine yachts started. Sylvia took the lead early in the race and maintained the advantage to the Horn. At that stage Aloma passed her. The order passing the beacon was: Aloma, Sylvia, Champagne, Sea Horse, Sea Gnome, Waiapu, Alystery, with the Anahera, which lowered away and put a tuck in, a long way astern, and the Alaidie, which had a collision at the start, still further behind. The finishing times were: Roma (sm). 5h 29m ss; Sylvia (4m), 5h 36m 15s; Champagne (6m), 5h 38m; Sea Horse (8m), 5h 43m 555; Waiapu (9Jm), 5h 44m 12s; Sea Gnome (12m), 5h 55m 40s; Alystery, 5h 56m ss. Anahera and Maidie were well behind. Corrected times placed Aloma first, Champagne second and Sylvia third. The launches, eight in number, were sent away at 3.15 p.m. Sea Wolf soon took the lead, followed by Regal, Katui, Cremorne, Hinemoa. Success, Salome and Wanderer. A good sea was running down the harbour, which placed the smaller boats at a disadvantage, and the finish was timed as follows: Sea Wolf (10m), 4h 17m; Regal *(27m), 4h 32m 20s; Hinemoa (30m), 4h 37m 15s; Katui (30m), 4h 45m 235; Wanderer (31m), 4h 47m 455; Cremorne (45m), 5h 2m 58s. Salome and Success did not cross the finishing line. Corrected times placed Regal first, Sea Wolf second, and Hinemoa third.
