Peebles put up a plucky resistance and was difficult to dislodge, as he declined to touch balls on the off. Taylor played with his old brilliancy, except for one brief period, when he appeared to be affected by the rapid fall of wickets. He secured his century in 143 minutes —the first century against the tourists. The tail played vigorously and pulled the game round. There were two short stoppages owing to rain. Deane «and Cameron had faultless knocks, and in a* race against the rain piled on runs. The partnership yielded S 9.
