VERY DEPRESSING

IMPRESSION OF SYDNEY BAPTIST LEADER’S VIEWS NEEDS A SCRUBBING BRUSH “Sydney needs a scrubbing brush.” That is what the Rev. Joseph Kemp, of the Baptist Tabernacle, Queen Street, thinks of the capital of New South Wales. Mr. Kemp has been visiting Sydney and Melbourne, and during his stay there he preached at seveitil churches. In addition to his other criticism of Sydney, Mr. Kemp said .that as a city it is depressing from the Church viewpoint. “Australians are very anxious to get some leaders of our church to settle over there,” he said. “New Zealanders are always in demand.” Mr. Kemp went to Australia to attend the Upway Bible Convention, which was held near Meloourne. “The convention was amazing for the large number of young people who attended it,” he said this morning, on the Marama. “More than two-thirds of the attendance consisted of young folk, and I consider it a fine sign of the times.” After attending the convention, Mr Kemp preached at the .Collins Street Baptist Church, Melbourne, and later at several of the suburban churches, including Kew, Auburn, and Clifton Hill. While in Sydney he preached at the Petersham Baptist Church.
